The Aso Sanjo Visitor Center (阿蘇山上ビジターセンター) hit 2.9 million cumulative visitors at the end of last month — meaning the landmark 3-million mark is just around the corner. To celebrate, the Aso Volcano Museum is running a special discount campaign throughout the summer.
From July 1 to August 31, 2026, adult and senior admission is reduced to ¥1,000 per person (normally ¥1,300 for adults and ¥1,100 for seniors). The discount applies to groups of up to five people, so it’s a great deal for families or a group of friends making the trip up to Aso.
The Aso Volcano Museum sits on the slopes of Mt. Aso and offers an immersive look at one of the world’s most active volcanic systems. Exhibits cover the geology, ecology, and history of the caldera, and the museum operates live camera feeds of the Nakadake crater — especially useful if the crater rim itself is off-limits. Note that Mt. Aso is currently at volcanic alert Level 2, so always check current conditions before heading up.
The campaign runs for the full height of summer, making it a natural add-on to any Aso sightseeing trip. The museum is located in Aso City and is accessible by car or sightseeing bus from Aso Station.
