Kumamoto Prefecture has released the third entry in its acclaimed Kumamon short film series, titled 「くまもとで、ずっと。」(Kumamoto de, Zutto.) — roughly translated as Forever in Kumamoto. The film is now available to watch for free on YouTube.
The series, produced by Kumamoto Prefecture in collaboration with celebrated screenwriter and director Koyama Kundo, has been a fan favourite since its debut. This latest chapter arrives roughly ten years after the second film, Furusato de, Zutto., and marks a full 15 years since the original Kumamoto de, Matteru. first touched audiences’ hearts.
In the new film, Kumamon revisits familiar faces from the earlier stories, finding warmth and quiet happiness in the ordinary moments of daily life. It’s described as a 15-year journey’s worth of story, compressed into a short but deeply felt piece. If you haven’t seen the earlier films, the series is a wonderful window into the gentler, more emotional side of Kumamoto’s most famous bear — quite a contrast to his usual mischievous persona. You can find out more about where to meet Kumamon in person at Kumamon Square’s seasonal events.
The film was written and directed by Koyama Kundo and produced by Kumamoto Prefecture. It’s a great watch whether you’re a long-time Kumamon fan, a newcomer curious about what makes this black-and-red bear so beloved, or simply someone who appreciates a quietly moving short film.
