Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has announced a large-scale travel support program called the Kyushu Fukko Ōen Wari (九州ふっこう応援割 — “Kyushu Recovery Support Discount”), funded by a ¥15.5 billion reserve budget. The campaign covers all seven Kyushu prefectures — Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima — and applies to stays from Thursday, October 1, 2026. No end date has been announced yet.
Kumamoto, which has been hit hard by recent earthquake damage, is among the prefectures receiving the highest discount rate. The campaign is structured similarly to Japan’s previous nationwide “Zenkoku Ryoko Shien” (National Travel Support) programs: discounts are applied upfront at the point of booking, so travelers don’t need to submit separate claims. You book, you pay the discounted price, and that’s it — though you may be asked to show ID at check-in, as with past programs.

The discounts apply to accommodation-only bookings as well as package tours that bundle accommodation with transport such as JR trains or flights. Eligible bookings can be made through travel agencies (in-store or online), major Japanese booking platforms like Rakuten Travel and Jalan, or directly through accommodation facilities. Whether regional coupons (地域クーポン) will also be issued — as they were under previous support programs — has not yet been confirmed.
The exact booking start date has not been set nationally; each prefecture will announce its own launch timing separately. If you’re planning a trip to Aso or Amakusa this autumn, keep an eye on Kumamoto Prefecture’s official tourism channels and major booking sites for the moment reservations open. Details on which specific facilities and tour products will be eligible are also still pending prefectural announcements.
