Buy and Eat Your Way to Recovery: How to Support Kumamoto After the 2026 Earthquake

Following the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, a “Buy to Support, Eat to Support” campaign has been gaining momentum across the prefecture. The idea is simple: purchasing Kumamoto specialty products — whether online or at dedicated shops — puts money directly into the hands of local farmers, fishers, and food producers who need it most. Here’s a rundown of where you can shop and how to get involved.

Online Shopping

Several online platforms are carrying Kumamoto products as part of the earthquake recovery campaign:

  • 食のみやこ熊本 (Shoku no Miyako Kumamoto) Campaign — Three mail-order sites are participating: Umaimon.com (gourmet gifts and local produce), Toyosu Ichiba.com (seasonal fruits and seafood direct from the market), and dancyu.com (the official shop of the well-known food magazine dancyu).
  • くまもと県南ふぅーど市場 (Kumamoto Kennan Food Market) — Specializing in products from the hardest-hit southern Kumamoto region, this site stocks items like banpeiyu (the world’s largest citrus fruit) jelly, processed seafood including cutlassfish and shrimp, and chestnut sweets.
  • くまモンのふるさと よかもんショップ (Yoka Mon Shop) — Run by the Kumamoto Prefecture Product Promotion Association, this broad online shop covers everyday favorites and seasonal treats from across the prefecture.
  • JAタウン 「買って応援、食べて応援、頑張ろう熊本」特設ページ — The JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) group’s online platform has launched a dedicated earthquake-recovery page featuring Kumamoto recovery product sets, sourced from nearly 450 local producers.

Yatsushiro Recovery Gift Sets

The organization DOM Yatsushiro is selling two special gift sets to support Yatsushiro City, one of the most affected areas. The やつしろ復興応援セット第二弾 (Yatsushiro Recovery Support Set Vol. 2) is a curated box of local specialties, with a portion of proceeds donated to Yatsushiro City. Applications are open until March 31, 2027.

A separate set, the 八代ふるさと直行便2026 (Yatsushiro Furusato Direct Delivery 2026), is packed with regional classics including banpeiyu, yuzu-pepper miso sauce, Izumi tea, and lotus root chips — available in Set A or Set B. Applications run November 1–30 and can be submitted online, by fax, by post, or in person at the following locations:

Shop in Person: Ginza Kumamoto-kan (Tokyo Antenna Shop)

If you’re heading to Tokyo, the 銀座熊本館 (Ginza Kumamoto-kan) antenna shop stocks around 1,500 Kumamoto products — from fresh vegetables and fruits to Kuma shochu (a local distilled spirit), karashi-renkon, and confectionery. It’s a great one-stop destination for anyone who wants to taste Kumamoto without leaving the capital.

Event: Shoku no Miyako Kumamoto at Aso Kumamoto Airport

Closer to home, a food fair is running at Aso Kumamoto Airport showcasing seasonal Kumamoto ingredients across three rotating phases (summer, autumn, winter). Entry is free, special event menus and new products are on offer, and food-related activities are planned throughout. It runs until March 31, 2027.
