Stargaze on the Slopes of Aso: The Aso Volcano Museum’s Star Museum Night Event Returns

One of Aso’s most-loved seasonal programmes is back: the Star Museum (星のミュージアム) at the Aso Volcano Museum returns for 2026 with guided evening stargazing sessions on the volcanic plateau. Set against the dramatic landscape of Mt. Aso’s Nakadake crater area, this is a rare chance to experience the dark, clear skies of Aso up close with expert guidance.

The standard program begins at the Aso Volcano Museum, then heads out to the Kusasenri Observation Area (草千里展望所). From there, participants walk through the park grounds to a dedicated ‘workcation area’ for open-air stargazing before returning to the museum’s 1F lobby to wrap up. On rainy evenings, the event moves entirely indoors — with crater-camera projection screenings, archive footage on the 2F, a mini VR theatre, and a stargazing talk in the multi-hall.
